Kirkwall had a pop up vinyl shop in Town on 31/08/13. I was not holding my expectations very high on finding anything that I would be remotely interested in, in fact what they had was mostly 80's and 90's music (and a few CD's too?) But would you believe it, the first table I came across had these five little beauties waiting for me, and the price was only £1 ($1.50) for all five!

All the MP3's in the links below were ripped from the vinyl records while playing on a 1961 Dansette record player.

Canadian issue of Bobby Helms first release from 1957

The only downer was this excellent looking Hank Locklin E.P volume 3 (above) in the Country Guitar collection, the vinyl inside was volume 7! (I could not believe he only wanted £1 for them all so double checking the records inside the sleeve did not occur to me). I believe the last owner of these records must have got his HANK's mixed up. The tracks on Volume 3 are; 'It's a Little More Like Heaven', 'Blue Grass Skirt', 'Why Don't You Haul Off & Love Me' and 'Send Me The Pillow You Sleep On'.

In The Jungle

I was talking to Jerry Chatabox at the 'Rockabilly Rave' when three cats came up and handed Jerry and yours truly a C.D. E.P. (it pays to be in Jerry's general presence when freebies are being handed out). They were 'The Mystery Gang Trio', who I knew of from their excellent debut C.D . 'Dig This Rock', and from a video or two on youtube.com (see below)

I was eager to get back home and listen to the specially produced release for the 2005 'Rockabilly Rave'. I was a little disappointed to hear that their style had become slightly heavier than before, and they sounded as if they were heading in a different musical direction. This confused me slightly as I gathered from the C.D's cover that they were trying to promote themselves on the rockabilly scene, and were hoping be asked to play the Rave sometime in the future. Maybe Jerry was not impressed with what he, or he thought (as I did) that their style was too far off centre to play at the festival, as no performance has occurred!

Darin approached Brunswick Records with the song 'Early in the Morning' and Brunswick was very impressed with what they heard. But Darin was still under contract to Atlantic Records' subsidiary label, Atco, so the song was released on Brunswick as being sung by 'The Ding Dongs'. But when New York deejays started playing the record and it became popular, Atco soon discovered something was up and put a stop to the Brunswich record.
